Kids say the darndest things

Well, I am still a few months behind in updating this blog, but before I write about these last few months back in Peru, there´s one more thing I want to share about my time in the States this summer. One night I was invited to share with the GAs and RAs (elementary-middle school age kids) at a church closeby. During my time sharing with them, I answered questions about what we are studying, about the Sierra and Yukpa people, Bible translation, and whatever else they decided to ask me about. And, I must say, I was very impressed with their questions. My first two questions were ¨How do you know that God wants you to be a missionary?¨and ¨How do you translate the Bible?¨. Wow. Talk about getting straight to the point! But they did ask other questions like ¨Do they have silly bands in South America? Do they wear makeup? Do they play football?¨

I really enjoyed answering their questions, and I taught them a greeting in Yukpa which was fun too. It was also really encouraging for me to watch the kids learn about missions and other cultures. Sharing with this church was also a really special experience for me because when I was younger I went to the GAs group at this church.

And it also reminded me of these verses...

¹³People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. ¹⁴When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. ¹⁵I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." ¹⁶And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them.
